I actually was thinking it was more along the lines of everyone being so detached from reality and glossy/deranged/disingenuous/self-involved that they don't even register whats actually happening...as opposed to them "being happy about it"...more like they're so self-involved and concerned with their own outward appearance, that they don't even really observe the fact that he's actually cannibalizing himself...
Or maybe thats just a terrible glimpse into my psyche.
